My 40 is on the road.
After a 5 year build, 3 parts trucks, trips for parts to 4 states, buying parts from 5 others, It hit the road (legally) just in time to drive another month until the plates expire and it goes to sleep for the winter, plan on adding rear disks, and an Aussie Locker while Im in there.
Few more do dads to put on it yet. 8274 getting bolted up tonight ![]() Last edited by ELFJ40; August 28th, 2006 at 07:08 PM. |

Yeah, Duct tape on the original Seat from 1970.. I have a new set of 78+ FJ 40 buckets in the garage. Welder is on the way, hopefully tomorrow so I can fab up some new brackets.
Sorry parts trucks are long gone. Just the needed spares, Birfs, 3rds, rear shafts, front shafts etc. |

Not too many of them left out there, even more so in the rust belt. I went to NC to get the body and frame.
I guess thats Why I wanted a Toy, and left the Jeep stuff to my brother. Parts are somewhat spendy depending on what you need. but the quality and durability of the OEM stuff is unreal. The body sat uncovered for at least 3 years. rain, humidity, Mice in the seats, etc. In the entire wiring harness I needed to clip and replace 2 wires for the rear tail lights! the rest of it cleaned up and still works. The other beauty is parts innerchangability. '75 motor with an 80 intake manifold. 77 axles with 88 birfields. Manual steering, no radio provision, they didnt show up for another few years. with the longer jump seats and OEM benches in front it was rated to carry 7 people albeit small people. its even got a plug under the glove box for an OEM trouble light. |

Do you still have the push-pull type steering?
If you want a power steering box for it, let me know. I still have a few that haven't hit ebay. They are gold there.. last one I got $160 for!! (They are also popular with the F-100 crowd for PS conversion..)

Nice cruzah, mine is from mississippi and was pretty rust free. There are a few patch spots though. Was looking for a very long time for something rust free and close, but never happened.

Bri I've been meaning to hit you up. I was the guy who met you at the LJS in Grand Rapids a year or so back with the FJ 40 front Bib.... Moved up from Ohio in November. NEED A CAGE DONE......... Haggar, No push pull. Its old school worm gear to pitman arm. rather spend the $$ on lockers and rear disks at this point. ![]() |

Where were you in January when I gave a front axle to the scrap guy in Ohio?
Seriously... I have several hook ups for parts if you need something specific to cruisers. most if not all of them are in Ohio though. The only extras I have are trail spares. I had to literally give stuff away before we moved. Frames, spare wheels and tires. front clips. Since we are toyota people. I need one wheel 6 on 5.5 15 inch, 3.5 backspacing and 8 inches wide. Anyone got a spare? |

Yeah, hard to find decent bodies around here, but then again, try finding anything 36 years old in this area without cancer....
have to put some new pics up. Bucket seats in. Winch up and running 35 MTRs on now. Rear Disk brakes done and dialed in. Just in time to sleep for the winter........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |
