Dana 44 strength

What would you run max tire sizes with a 44 with alloy shafts?

Depends on your right foot.

If you drop the hammer on everything and you don't want to ever break shafts then 35-36's. If your willing to be sensable about it then 38's.

I've seen plenty of people run 38-39.5s with them...

I think 38s is a good overall number.

1/2 ton 19-spline outers? Or Jeep dana 30 outers?

Plenty of people run 35s with decent success on dana 30s in their Wranglers..

I've had 39.5's on my 44 w/ 3/4 ton shafts and spooled. No issues yet. Haven't done alot of wheeling with yet, but done Attica twice, and Katemcy rocks down in Texas twice (alot of rocks, pushed it pretty good) all being driven by a V8 and haven't had anything break yet

I run 38 sx's with a spooled 44 w/ moser shafts and have been okay. I don't really beat on it though. I have a 44 front but I only have a tru-trac in the front, so no problems there either.

I've broke some front axle shafts, but have not got the $$ for some good alloy ones yet. When that happens, I will feel just fine running Locked 44's with 35's and a V8. Maybe 37's some day.

As far as shaft and balljoint size goes an D30 is pretty much the same as a D44

I have an aussie in the front, 4to1 case, 5.38 gears and 36 SX's. I also have a set of Longfield Super Joints in my stock shafts. I was out 3 times last year with no problems... even in some situations where I normally would have lost a u-joint (one tire turned climbing up a wall for instance)

Now all my my prior u-joint falures have been breaking the joint, or loosing a cap. So if your snapping stubs, or bending ears, just the u-joints may not be the best bet.

I think you have alloy front shafts anyways cube don't you? Are they stock u-joints?

I know :)

I ran 34x9.5s and 35x12.5 SSRs on my CJ dana 30 with stock shafts and the smaller 5-260x joints with a lock right.. 304 V8 with a T15/Dana 20

I broke a carrier once, thats all I ever broke in 4 years. But it was judicial use of the throttle. Only locked for a year of that, I know I would have blown it up eventually. The carrier broek due to being full of water that froze solid..

anyone ever put D60 C's, knuckles and etc. on a D44 and then put in 35 spline shafts? I think this would be a very strong D44. Definatly be able to handle 38's and a heavy foot
