Im checking to see if anybody drives and tows with a v10 superduty. Im gonna be getting another truck soon and I found one that I like. Its a 99 F350 with a v10 5spd.

I know I know, 5mpg or whatever. Just looking to see if somebody with one of these trucks has any comments good or bad?

My shop foreman at work has a '00 crew cab V-10/auto. He tows a heavy 28' travel trailer with his. He mentioned getting about 9-10mpg towing his camper, and 12-13mpg unloaded.

We have had 2 different Ford v10's, auto and manual. Both towed a 3500lb deckover trailer with a jeep or full-size truck on it. When towing a full sized on the trailer you could definately tell it was back there, but still towed good. Gas mileage wasn't very good, we never really wanted to know how bad it was so we never actually checked.

I have an 01 F350 with a v10 that I tow my 3400 lb deckover hauling my offroad toys. It is lifted with 38s with 4.30 gearing so I get a little less than a stock truck's mileage. I average 10 mpg at 70 mph with the truck alone and towing I get 7-8 mpg at 70. I've hauled a Hummer H1 with little problem - the v10 does like to run in the upper rpms on the steep hills though when pulling heavy loads.

Here is my tow rig - as it was in 2001

As it was in 2004 (when the towed toy got smaller and the tow vehicle grew larger) :)

IMHO, if you don't pull heavy loads through the mountains, diesels are overkill and the V10 will be perfect.

On the other hand, I do like 500+ lb*ft at the rear wheels.

Hubby has a 01 F250 4x4 V10. We always joke when we want to pull down the house, we already have the vehicle to do it. Once I get a trailer to put the YJ on I'll let you know, but everything we've towed with it have not been a problem.

(OFF TOPIC - What are those tires in the 2nd pic? We were talking about needing new tires for that thing and I like those. Are they on the stock rims?)
