I need a muffler that wont explode

In the past 3 years Ive gone through 3 stock mufflers and a magnaflow. The mag lasted about 6 months, the rest only a couple. Any reccomendations, im sick of defective equipment tickets.

Keep in mind this is for my 2.5L

Are all the mufflers you are using the "rolled" type? Are the busting apart at the body? This usually happened from unburnt gas poping inside the muffler. Do you have a Cat on the exhaust system? That will almost always solve that problem. Otherwise, you need to find a good heavy fully welded muffler.

I have no cat and the stock ones were rolled. However only one came apart ot the rolls, another literally exploded, and melted my spings bushings. the magnaflow is nicely welded, but something went wrong inside and its now loud as crap, same thing hapened with my original stock one.

I have no friggen clue how I kill them, especially with my 4 banger. I am gona see what the shop that did my magnaflow can do since he said that I wouldnt kill it, but that was over a year ago. sucks not having a license....

I JUST TOLD YOU WHAT IS KILLING THEM.

You dont' have a cat, so all the unburned fuel is burning indide yuor muffler. The only thing that will last is a fully welded chambered muffler, or put a cat back on.

Throw a cherry bomb on there, those dont blow apart being a straight through design.

You're right Shawn, but he still shouldn't be going through 2+ mufflers a year unless he is running very rich, hence my MPG question.

it sounds like u got more problems than muffler choice... so id look into that.. but a flow through design will not blow apart like that.. id go with a cherry bomb .. too loud ?? Run 2 ?

you'r burning fuel in the exhaust . it will melt the CRF (continuous roving fiberglass) in the magnaflow, and other CRF type mufflers. (dynomax ultra flow and cherry bomb types)

4 banger is likely on it's way out. you have the exact problem I had. Be ready for it to start jumping timing.............

Cherry bombs (if its the one I am thinking of) are not trail legal because they are not a spark arrestor. DNR looks for a muffler... they see a nice pipe looking cherry bomb its a no spark arrestor ticket.

BTW are all your mounts in good shape when i was breaking them i think I had a weak mount too. Though if your blowing them right up I have a feeling that like everyone says, your getting unburned fuel in the exhaust

Mine with 31s only got 15, 13 sounds about right. They aren't efficient vehicles..

Flowmasters are about indestructable. I had a pair mounted under my rockers in my CJ-5. They got beat on trees/muds/dirt for 3 years, barely even dented at all. I think they were actualyl ripped off by trail impacts over a dozen times before I fabbed a better setup. After that, I powerwashed them, and they were nice enough to sell. (sold one, went to signle exhaust with the other)

I'm running a flowmaster 40 series on my Toyota with a 2.4 liter, it sounds pretty nice, actually. Look on Ebay, theres a guy who sells them out of lansing for good prices..

Your sad

not like its stock (33s on 10in steel rims makes a bit of a difference) and the 4bnger only get about 1-2mpg better than the 6

I also dont usually use 5th cuz i dont like the slow lane, I can usually hold close to 75 in 4th (assuming based on speedo calculations)
