track bars

has anyone heard of track bars "wearing out" on XJ's? Last visit to the dealership they told me it was loose and said that they only get about 80k miles on them before they need replacing. Seems to me this isn't a part that would need to be replaced by mileage, no moving parts or anything. Do you think the dealer was B.S.ing me into another 300$ to replace it?

It is a maintenance item. They will eventually fail, faster if you drive off-road.

And they do move. $300 however, is a complete rip-off. Buy an aftermarket one, stock or beefed, and do it yourself.
