If you see where his breather is at it is behind where the band goes. This allows the oil to be slung at the breather while it is running. I locate mine over the band this way it is sheilded. I have been doing this to dodge trannies for many, many years.

That is exactly how I did the breather on my 46re. 90* fitting and a hose thru the bell housing up into the engine compartment.

I have done it that way in the past, but I like it on the outside of the case. You can get better fittings with better orifices for venting.
