318 eating oil

On two different vehicles, a 99 Ram and a 97 Van, these things are going through oil. It doesn't leak anywhere, but just starts emptying the pan. I have not had this problem on my ZJ, but the father-n-law has been having this problem for a few years now. Any ideas? I've looked it over and can't find an expanation.

If its not leaking, it can only go one place. Its getting into the cyilnders and being consumed. If your PCV valve isn't active, maybe its getting past the valve seals.

Sounds like the intake belly pan gasket. It is a common problem on the magnum engines.

I have heard mention of the intake causing this, i would guess its what he said ^^^

i just fixed mine on my 99 dodge ramwagon van lower plenum gasket it was sucking the oil into the cylinders and out the exhaust didnt know till one day had to stop quick on the freeway and oil pressure dropped and check gauge lite came on if you fix it yourself go to the dealer and get the gasket it is better the the ones from the auto parts store it has metal in it i think it was around 60 bucks for the whole gasket kit also change the bypass hose from the water pump to intake while you are there it was 5 bucks and get the clamps for it you dont want to have to tear it all back apart for a 5 dollar hose also do not use silicone on this it will suck it out and leak again hope this helps you out

depending on how bad it is leaking,but it would make sence that it would cause a idle problem. due to a vacume leak.

If you pull the throttle body, look down inside the beer keg with a flashlight. It is looks wet in there, your plenum gasket is shot. I picked up a billet aluminum plate and gasket from www.apsprecision.com to fix it. It's $100 or used to be, but it is thicker and doesn't deform when it heats up allowing the gasket to blow out. Just an option. Monkeyevil was talking about machining something like this for way cheaper though. May be a good thing for them to start producing for sale. ;)
