4.10 gears?

Seems like 4th gear is too low and 5th too high when towing. 4.10's would add about 250 RPM's...

Does anybody have a 5.9 with 4.10's? I'm running 265 tires currently. Trying to see if it kills or helps gas mileage also

Kind of off-topic, but I'm still trying to figure out what the ratio in my truck is. Someone said with the off-road package and towing package you got the 3.92, but I'm not too sure.

2400 RPM @ 80 mph on 275/70R17's 5.9L V8

Hope that helps....the axle ratio also isn't listed on the window sticker.

Go to Dodgeram.org and look it up.

BTW, I have a set of D60 4.56's that I would like to sell. They were installed and driven for about 1/4 mile and then yanked for 4.88's.

Fronts a Dana 44, isn't it just stamped on the cover tags, Greasemonkey?

MonkeyEvil(whats with all the damn monkeys around here?) I had a 2000 Dodge ram, 2500HD 4x4 ext cab, long bed, camper special package.

5.9 liter with 4.10 gears. It got terrible mileage. The truck is just too big for that 5.9. 9-10 city, 12 hwy-13, 8 towing.

Funny, with 4.10 gears, I always felt that it was in between. In 3rd gear, 65 mph was running the engine too fast, and 4th gear was not enough power. I always thought that with the 3.54s, it'd have been OK to run the OD off and cruise in 3rd gear at 65 mpg.

I used to tow at 80mph, so that I had the engine in a good range. Towed better at 80 than a 65 in fourth gear.

I'd never waste my time with a 5.9 truck again.

'01 half ton reg. cab 4x4 short bed 5.9L 3.92 gears and doing 80 on the freeway I get about 15-16. Drop it down to 70 and I get almost 18.

I have a 2001 ram 1500 with the off road package that came with a 5.9L and 4:10 gears and with the 39 inch tires i can still cruise down the freeway at 75 miles an hour with no problem. I really like the set up I have as far as that goes. Sometimes I wish I had a lower gear for wheelen but since I drive it on road quite a bit it works out well. There may be a sticker inside your glove box that tells you what gears you have. You could also try asking the dealer if they can find out for you using your vin if all else fails.

It should be on the tag on the underside of your hood.

39" tires with only 4.10's?

yeah why?

Could put 4:56's in there if I really wanted to but this seems to be a very good all around set up. I also like that I can still go over 70mph if I want with out too much effort. I suprise a lot of people with what this truck can do for as little as I have done to it.
