Axle Width Data

Factory tread with is not WMS to WMS. It's center of stock tire on stock wheel to the same on the other side. It depends on offset of wheels and several other factors. Tread width is usually narrower than WMS to WMS because of the off set the center of tire is farther inboard than WMS. Use this chart for comparison.

CJ8s can have both wide and narrow factory axles

The J-10 axle is wider than a NT and narrower than a WT.

Narrow track CJ-7 and CJ-5 axles should be the same width...(all CJ-5s are narrow)

Mmm, those are posted as TRACK widths, not axles widths.

The early Jeeps had skinny tires and wheels which affected the track width.

The rear axle widths are more or less the same. I currently own a 53 CJ-3a, and have previously owned intermediate (1975) and late model (1981) CJ-5s... there isn't a 2" difference in axle width, only track width changes based on OE tire/wheel combos. All should be 50.5". The front axles may pick up some width, the early are 51" WMS, later are 53" WMS.

I'd still be a benefit, to get an open knuckle front end, I'd keep the Daan 44 offset rear and get 1 piece axles for it, unless you are also swapping T-cases.

Got ya on the track width. Can not find a 1 piece rear axle for the offset 44 int hat jeep.

Any idea where I can look for that? I wouldn't mind keeping it stock (with the exception of ARB, terelow, 35's glass tub, 4 inch lift, and EFI )

Was going to go with the AMC20 and Dana 30 just because I am running them in the -7 already and am happy with the preformance. I drive pretty gentle.

I like the dauntless as a novelty thing but getting a fully injected one is tough with the oddfire.........

As for FI for the Dauntless, just swap a Pro-Jection on, they work fine with the odd-fire.

I have heard '70 1/2 - '71, but I'll defer to the experts on this one. There Cooter & Haggar...do you feel like experts now?

Yes, I have one with 5.38 gears (currently at Cooter's place) that I would consider selling. I bought it for a possible future project, but it seems most everything I have is for sale for the right price.

I've seen that list before on Jeep-L or SWB. I always thought it was a WMS list, but I never bothered to check anything on it. Being able to look up which models were wider or narrower than others was always enough for what I was doing.
