New tow rig idea?

I can get a P-35 step van for free, just need a new 454 which I have, Question is how well do you think it would haul the jeep? Think ing about cuttting it to the red line and buiding a deck out of steel not the Al. that is already there. Then I just need to make a back half of the cab. Probally just carpet and condtion the inside like a mini camper depending how much room is left. Thoughts?

Yep, look in the tow rigs forum at Pirate (if you have to, ask swampjeep, he's the PBB searching master )... someone has been doing a cool build with I think a 24 ft cube van..

keep it all inclosed, that way to have a "party porch" if you're camping and it's raining out....

Thats not a big ass van like a UHAUL so i doubt his TJ will fit inside... but if it does fit then yes keep it enclosed...

I can tell you on one trip to attica, we had a 24 ft moving van, with a samurai AND my CJ-5 inside.. tight, but it worked and drove great.

I think a 454 wouldn't have trouble, other than gas mileage.

My Tj would be to tall to fir on the inside of it. That is why I want to cut the back half off and make the forn a place to sleep.

WE were going to do it with a school bus just because they are longer and ours was going to haul dirt bikes and quads. But it is a good idea.

you might be farther ahead to leave it togther and pull a trailer. it would make a great camper/tool truck and they are really good at hauling loads. you should expect about 12,000 towing capcity.

I used to wheel with a guy that had a van like that. His was an old Butternut truck with I believe a 350ci. He mad a work area and camp area in the back. Plus it towed his CJ on 44's on a trailer.

The small tire idea might be worth checking out. I know there's not a huge amount of room in those things, but if you could fit it in and keep everything enclosed it would pretty nice to have all that room. Would probably be a pain in the ass swapping out tires everytime though.
