V10 Exhuast... has anyone found anything that sounds good?

Just curious... my 96 V10 ram needs some exhaust work. Was thinknig of, um, enhancing the cat, and a new muffler, as well as fixing the leaks..

No, it won't.

Volume is your friend. You want a large chamber on the muffler. As big as you can find to keep the tone low. I have a 2-2, but the muffler itself is small, so it has a very "rappy" sound to it that's kind of higher pitched than you would expect.

The first Vipers had a funny sounding exhaust from the factory. The new ones that are out now sound a hell of alot better. It's all in putting the right exhaust on there. You can't just throw a couple flowmasters on there with pipes like you can with any V8 and expect it to sound good.

Hell, I've heard 'Vettes with Borla exhaust sound like V6s. 'Vettes with Corsa exhaust sound bad as hell.

I have never liked the sound of Dodge motors with a free flowing exhaust. Every Dodge I hear with flows or magniflows sounds bad IMHO. I need a new muffler soon, and I will probably go stock unless someone can prove me wrong.

i don't really like the flo on my YJ either, but it stays there because it can take a beating like no other *lol*

Your best bet is to go the quiet route. A V-10 is a tough motor to get a good exhaust note out of. If you must mess with it I'd try to mimick a viper system or a SRT-10 system.

I agree with Monkey on the Flowmasters, I have and hate them on my truck. It had a great tone with open headers, than I ran duals w/flowmasters and it created a sound of it's own. BBBBLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT!!!!!!!

V10's just need large chambers to lower the tone.

How about you cap the box off , run the inlet in the front and a really short tail pipe out the tail gate . that a big enough chamber ?

It will still sound like a sick scooter

I started out running (2) flowmaster 40 series true dual exhaust - it sounded like crap.

I then added in an h-pipe and it sounded better.

I'm currently running 3" single exhaust with a Flowmaster Super 40 series delta flow muffler and it sounds the best it has. Summit's P/N on the muffler is FLO-953046.

In order to get any decent sound out of them w/o sounding like a freakin' airplane ready to take off, you either need to run dual with an x-pipe or a big single exhaust. I like the single exhaust better.
