3rd Brakelight "lift"

Has anyone here ever lifted there 3rd breaklight with spacers and longer bolts? I found this writeup (http://www.4x4xplor.com/3rdbrakelightextension.html) and was woundering how well it would work. I guess I will head to the hardware store later. My spair fits but its a tight fit.

I think people usually lift it right off the Jeep.

I drove for a few years without one. Was even pulled over once for something else, no problems for me.

It is a Michigan law that a vehicle equipped with a 3rd brake light must have it working at all times..
I just bought a truck cap at work, and was forced into this 80 dollar option..

PM Romey, and ask him to post how he did it.. It turned out good. But he only had to clear a 33" Trxus MT

not sure how big you are going

Lowes has some spacers and bolts to lift it. I took mine off as soon as I got my jeep. It looked like poo. Never had a problem. If the thing was there and not hooked up they might give you crap, but if it's not on the truck...

Using those spacers is exactly how I did it on my TJ with 33" MTRs.
I got everything I needed at ACE hardware.
Looked good, worked good.
I've heard of a couple of guys that got tickets for "removing oem safety items" from their heeps.

Thanks for all your replies, I went down to the local hardware picked up 4 2in bolts, 4 2in metal spacers, and a lot of washers, took the old screws out, and in the process, snaped one off . Got them off, set the bolts up as found in the pic below, and went with 3 out of the 4. It seems solid, so I hope the lack of 1 bolt dosnt come back to bite me in the ass. It looks great, adds enough room to fit my new 31 inchers in ther perfectly!

Yes, if your jeep came with one, you still need to run one. I have been pulled over for this as the height law too! I have taken a spare center cap for a mag wheel. Drilled a 2" hole in it and installed a push in marker light that mount in a rubber boot then install it on the spare tire. That worked real well. I know have a LED light that mounts on my stinger bumper that I made last summer.
