Pig Gig Trail rides.. I need opinions.. Groups/Locations/Blah Blah

I'm setting up the trail rides this year for the pig gig.

First thing, I need trail leaders. I'm hoping to have my jeep done by then, but it is not a definite.

Please post up if you are willing to be a trail leader (you must know the area).

Please post up your opinion of how many vehicles per group.

Please post up any other things dealing with this. I want the trail rides to turn out great.

I'd like to do a night run also. Anybody up for one of those? Or is it better to do a day run only?

thanks for posting up C.C. and taking over on the trail runs

best not to have more than 10 in each group

friday night run would be great just dont drink and drive

make sure your rigs are ready to hit the trails full of gas, tow points front and rear, tow strap fire ex.,snacks

10-12 trail leaders are a must and set up some pre runs for new leaders

I didn't think there were organized trail rides at the cookout - however people (like myself) have been known to explore the area during the day.

What I think would help folks take advantage of the opportunities in the area are:

Having a variety of pre-planned routes available for folks - so they know what's available on a given route. Maybe a pre-run a week or two prior to the event to rate the trails. That way people can match their equipment and confidence to the trail - this is important for rookies / stockers.

Let people know roughly where each route might go - i.e. to the scramble area at St. Helen where an ORV sticker is required.

A list of things to bring / expect is a good idea (tow strap, tow points front & rear, water / soft drinks, prepare for sand / dust, CB is a good idea, etc...). Likewise a good pre-run brief is a good idea - i.e. air down & gas up before the trail, keep the rig behind you in sight, tread lightly, etc...

Would definently be nice for n008s like me if there was an "easy"/beginners trail. Also, would the stock tow hooks on the front of my Jeep be enough? My guess is no, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

This is good news, cause that means I only have to figure out how to get a tow point in the back without modifying anything too much.

Would this work for a rear extraction point?

At any rate, I should be paying relatively soon for te Gig. I may not start heading that way till about 2pm on the 8th, but I should be there. Will probly also have to leave early too. Damn college...

I'd like to take a group of 10 or so who have a total disregard for paint and go explore some of the uncharted regions of the motorsports area.

Good to know, now all I need are new tires, a CB, and a ORV sticker. :)

It's true, I have pictures of Yogi's 150 pulling Two Jeeps by the Winches into a mud pit!

Brewmann,
I know you dont know me but I will be in for the NO REGARDS trail, becuase I just dont care about looks.

Here is a link to all maps for ORV trails here in michigan. I thought it might be helpful to some.

Quick question, on those maps, where they say DNR license required, do they mean an ORV sticker, or is it another license I'll need to get?

An ORV sticker is all that is required, so I'm assuming that is what they are refering to.

You need a special PIG GIG TRAIL LICENSE. You can obtain one by sending $49.99 via paypal to sales@greatlakes4x4.com

Thank you.
