wierd to start

96 ram, 4x4, 1500

whenever i go to start the truck, i turn the key to "on" all the lights pop on (like they are suposed to), then when i turn it to "start" the is a delay (about 1 second or 1.5 seconds) with nothing, then it will crank and fire up...every once in a while you have to drop it down to neutral to get it to crank...the other day i could not start it in either one, started playing with the shifter and finally got it to start...ever since then, i do not need to press the brake pedal in order to shift into gear...the only thing i could think of was the neutral safty switch, which i replaced today, with no improvement on the truck...any help would be greatly appreacated

TIA

It's something like that I think....Haynes doesn't usually use very technical terms though.

Well...in 1994 they have 2 park/neutral switches.

One located in the PCM (center of dash) and the other located at the rear left side of the trans.
