Building my sliders

I started working on them this week. I dont think there is much force placed on the frame (unibody) most should be on the pinch seam so I just used 3/16 plate and 2 bolts per leg or 4 bolts per side. All the steal I am using for these is 3/16 but the 3/4x3/4 angle, for the pinch seam, is 1/8.



Here I have my mounting plates welded to the "legs" for the main bar.





I will update as I go along.

two bolts per leg may be enough.....but if and when you put step/side protection on it....drop this onto a rock with a little bit of force.....I guarantee that some leverage is applied the the inside mounting surface.

I agree. I just didnt think it would be much force. 2 half inch grade 8 bolts per leg should hold it. I looked at a few on line and some were only using 5/16 self threading bolts. If this is not going to be strong now would be the time to change the plan. For example these are kinda what I am shooting for.

Well thanks to the long weekend I got them done.

So here is my update.

After I built the legs I test fit them and found the front leg didnt sit flat on the umi-fram. I made 2 cuts with my cut off wheel thru 3 sides of the leg about an inch frome the mounting plate. I then beat the snot out of it to close the gaps. After I test fit them again I welded up the slots. I only have a pic of the leg finished. It is the front and rear leg side by side. You can see the angle on the front leg.


I then clamped the legs to the jeep and tack welded the pinch seam mount on. Only pic I have is after it was welded on.


I cut the ends of the main tube at an angle for looks. The only pic I have is of were I marked it to cut.

I made them so I could also use them as a step. They do not stick out much from the side.


Im happy with the way they came out. Even the wife said the look good. so Now I might have to build a rear bumper.

Not really but I could take some. All I did to mount them to the pinch seam was to hold the 3/4"x3/4" angle to the seam and mark were I wanted bolts. Then drill eleven 1/4" holes for eack side with the drill press. Then I clamped the angle to the pinch seam and drilled out the holes using the angle as a guide. Hope that helps.

Looks like a nice clean job .

I made some simular quite awhile ago . I have managed to bend them landing on rocks . Your correct they take all most all the abuse at the pinch seem on the rocker .
