what is the diffrence between these front axles?

Roughly equivelent in size and strength..

8.5" ring gears, 1.31" shafts..

cool im looking for a dana 44 pass drop full width out of a chevy but i keep running into people saying they have a 10 bolt and i wanted to know the diffrence. are all the parts interchange able?

I don't know if any parts are interchangeable. I've heard some talk about shafts being swapped, but I thought the spline pitch is different even thoguh they are both 30 spline 1.31" fronts..

Earlier chevys, like from the 70s, had Dana 44s.. later it switched to 10 bolts. Dunno the exact year.

Chevy front axle

74-88 10 bolts were 28 spline the cover is oval looking
73/4 and older were D44 30 spline sort of stop sign look
88/92 were 30 spline

I believe the knuckles out are interchangable, but inner shafts are differnet
