jeep won't shift into 4x4 high

just like it says. Will go into 4lo, 2hi, neutral, but not 4x4 hi. Sometimes I can get it to go in but it just last a second. Checked the linkage and it doesn't appear to be shifted or have moved. Any suggestions?

tj or xj?

(yj's usually don't have an issue since the shifter is bolted to the t-case/trans)

i've been having the same problem...but i am looking into getting a 4x4 posi kit, which bypasses the crappy vacuum motor and ensures that when you want to be in 4x4, it will be in 4x4...look into it, quadratec sells the kit for 200 bucks, give or take
