Church vs Religion

Do you believe that you must go to church to be religious?

I for one believe that religion does not require any special place to pray or practice. I can be totally religious and live my life as good or better than those who go to church every sunday, I just choose to do it in my own home.

I totally agree. You can be "religious" without going to church, and just the act of going to church does not make you "religious"

It all depends on the church there's exceptions to every rule. Too many of today's religious denominations pick a handful of thing to focus on a place them above every thing else. The true message is lost in the politics and the result a whole bunch of folks acting like assholes, it is our responsibility to become educated and find the main points in what ever religion we choose and not become fixated on the words but understand the message.

My brain is my church, and my thoughts are my religion. So yes, I have to attend church to be religous.

I think young christians should attend church but more importantly Sunday school to learn the bible or the religon they believe in.

I personally have been at odds with religion... although i do believe if i have kids they will attend sunday school and church when younger as i'll probally start going again. But as of now i don't feel its needed to be religious, also haveing sunday as my only day to sleep in and work on my own stuff leaves me in bed

I've been argueing this with my wife.

I haven't been happy with any church i've walked into in several years. She thinks we need to find one and go, I argue, it doesn't matter if you go to the building, as long as you believe what you believe.

The idea of going to church to be religious is that you are surrounding your self with fellow members of your faith to strengthen and reaffirm your beliefs. Now that being said. I use to be in the Baptist church every time the doors were open. Once I was able to make my own decisions I kept going, because I wanted to. I started hanging out with people from my church, and other baptist churches socially. I saw how durning the week, and expecially on friday and saturday nights the people I saw then, and the the people I saw on sunday were two totally different people. Then, they looked down on my when i was myself. They were just plain ole' hiprocrates. I choose not to associate with them any more. Am I religious? Naw.. do I have a faith that I believe in, and will defend, yep. Do I live the perfect Christian life? Nope, and most importiantly I don't pretend one day out of the week that I do.

My respect for you as a person just took another flying leap higher up the chart. This was one of my main points of contention with the church my parents dragged me to while growing up. The same people that were out late Friday night partying it up, were the same people who put on the holier than though persona first thing Sunday morning. And OMG were they smug. It really turned me off to organized religion.

It's a sad place that the cristian church has led it's self to. I too hold the same feeling as many of you I hope that we all continue to persue a truer understanding of faith, God, and his message.

religiouse doesnt mean christian or catholic or any thing like that it means that you beleive in somthing and stick to it.
