TJ-5 Build Up Week #1
I started the latest build up on my jeep on labor day. At the time I didn't know about this site or else I would have been posting the build as I went along. My jeep had a very capable drive train with a 4.0, NV4500, atlas 4.3, D44R/9, 5.13's and detroits, but the suspension was quite sloppy and it seemed like a lot of work to get this thing through a trail. Since I like short wheel base wheeling, I decided to make a TJ-5 by shortenning the body a foot and making suspension changes. Here's some pics of week 1 progress.
Full pic.
Here's a shot of te RCI fuel cell.
Here's a pic of the back of the jeep before doing any work.
A pic of where I started.
Here is where the main work is going to take place. My goal is to have a 90+ degree departure angle on the jeep without stretching the wheel base.
The front approach angle kind of sucks but it can easily be improved by ditching the front bumper and welding some plate to the frame.
This is the pile of shit that got yanked out of my jeep.
Heres the progress after week #1. A lot is taken out and the tub is ready to be shortened.
Here's a pic right after I cut off the back legs of the sport bar.
